Fine Dining Degustation at Laura, Pt. Leo Estate
This year, one of my self-love goals is to indulge in food pampering, with a special focus on fine dining degustation experiences. There’s something truly rewarding about savouring beautifully crafted dishes—each one a work of art that tells its own story.
To kick off our first degustation adventure of the year, my husband and I visited Pt. Leo Estate’s renowned restaurant, Laura, located on the stunning Mornington Peninsula. From the moment we arrived, the ambiance promised an unforgettable culinary journey. The menu offered a thoughtful progression of dishes, each meticulously designed to highlight seasonal ingredients and local flavours.
While I wish I could identify every ingredient in each course (because I’d genuinely love to recreate the experience every day), degustation isn’t about analysing every detail—it’s about immersing yourself in a sensory journey through food. It’s a chance to savour, enjoy, and fully live in the moment, appreciating the artistry behind each dish.
The plating alone demanded admiration, with vibrant colours and intricate textures making each dish almost too beautiful to eat. Simply put, every course was Instagram-worthy! Of course, we couldn’t resist diving in, and eat we did, devouring every bite while marveling at the harmony of flavours.
Pausing for photos was a must, as each dish was plated with such care that I felt compelled to capture the artistry before indulging. While it’s best experienced in person, I hope my photos do justice to the beauty and creativity of this meal and inspire you to visit this incredible restaurant.
Presented below are the dishes in the order they were served. From vibrant bursts of colour to minimalist monochromatic elegance (where simplicity spoke volumes), the intricate details showcased the sheer artistry of our degustation experience at Laura. Whether you’re a devoted foodie, a fine dining enthusiast, or simply curious about degustation, I hope these highlights inspire your next culinary adventure.
Since I missed capturing a photo of this stunning course, here’s a video instead to show off how it was presented.
The dish: Aquana Murray cod, Mt. Zero chickpeas, kokotxa and cod 'cayos', Pt. Leo Estate garden rocket
with
Sui garden salad, kohlrabi, fennel pollen, cabernet vinaigrette
Tuerong Farm epi bread, Cape Schanck Estate olive butter
Overall, we truly enjoyed this fine dining experience, which stretched from 1:15 pm to nearly 5 pm. But if we had to pick our top palate-pleasers, they’d be:
- Sea urchin mousse with Carnaroli rice cooked in Caprinella broth and apple
- Savoury wakame doughnut with Yarra Valley salmon roe
- Beetroot taco with beef tongue and horseradish yoghurt
Fine dining degustation isn’t just a meal—it’s an experience, one that leaves you with lasting memories of flavours, textures, and moments shared. Whether you’re a food enthusiast, a lover of artful dining, or simply someone seeking to pamper yourself, experiences like this are worth relishing. I can’t wait to discover more culinary treasures this year, and I hope this inspires you to explore your own.
