My Favourite Embroidery Design Files on Etsy

Ever since I got into embroidery, Etsy’s been my go-to for digitised files. I started using them for Mother’s Day gifts, and now I’m sourcing designs for my small biz (as long as they’re approved for commercial use).

What I really appreciate is when a file just stitches beautifully — clean lines, no weird bunching, not overly dense. Some designs come off the machine looking so good, it instantly makes the whole process feel more rewarding. You can always tell when a file’s been carefully digitised.

Eventually, I’d love to digitise my own artwork, but for now, Etsy has so many quality designs I can use—for both personal projects and pieces I’ll be offering through Wear the Quiet.

Here are my current top five embroidery design files from Etsy that stitched up so well:

1. Mother & Son Design – by SandraEmbroidery

This was the very first embroidery project I made with my machine—and it still means a lot. I stitched this onto a jumper for my sister for Mother’s Day. The file is from SandraEmbroidery, and it stitched out beautifully with no issues. Super clean detail, and such a sweet design.

2. Open Book Design – by EmbroplaceDigital

I’ve collected a few book-themed files, but this one from EmbroplaceDigital is a standout. It’s simple, clean, and stitches perfectly on jumpers—great spacing and no excessive density, which makes it ideal for apparel.

3. Sleeping Koala Art – by EmbroplaceDigital

Another favourite from EmbroplaceDigital—I spotted this koala design and couldn’t resist. It stitched flawlessly on the first go, and I had no issues at all.

4. Camera Line Art – by ScotiEmbroidery

I was looking for a clean, minimal camera design to embroider on a jumper for my husband—and this one nailed it. The design even resembles his actual DSLR. With a low stitch count and great line work, this file from ScotiEmbroidery was perfect.

5. Headphones Design – by EmmasArtandDesignCo

I’ve tried a few headphone files before, but this one from EmmasArtandDesignCo is hands-down the best. The design is clean and it stitches like a dream—no issues from the very first run. I should’ve picked better thread colours, but we’ll save that story for another time.

Saying I love embroidery is honestly an understatement.

Even with a full-time job, I make it a point to block out time every evening to embroider (mornings just aren’t it for this night owl 🦉). Like I’ve shared in earlier posts, I’m in the process of setting up a small biz selling embroidered jumpers. Finding good designs and testing them on actual fabric is a big part of the groundwork—and something I’m slowly getting more confident with.
